The Current affairs group met over a coffee for its inaugural meeting in the Monkfield Arms. Mike Harford, who has chaired similar meetings at the Cambridge U3A, provided cuttings from newspapers on a variety of topics that we might like to discuss and boom we were off with AI, driverless cars and infrastructure including local perspectives. As it was technology focused lots of discussion on how the ubiquity of phones, iPads etc has impacted on our lifestyles/family/work.
The intention is to meet monthly with people within the group suggesting topics for the next discussion. We have set the 16th of April at 2.30 in the same venue as our next meeting but will then settle on a definite day eg first Tuesday of the month. Topics suggested include social care with an ageing population and who knows there might be a way forward in the Brexit impasse.
