Sculpture Creation
You will probably be aware of the Dursley Sculpture and Play Trail in the woods above Dursley which was launched in 2008. Local groups of all abilities and ages (under 5s to over 90s) have helped to create individual works. Some have been sponsored by progressive local businesses and some have worked closely with professional sculptors who have helped to interpret creative ideas around the theme of healthy living. Schools and Colleges have used the opportunity to encourage the development of students’ artistic and creative talents. Some have survived from the start, while others (despite ongoing maintenance) have not survived the environment. There is always room to add a few more!
Recently, several members have suggested that it is time to create a sculpture sponsored by our u3a. This group is now in operation, with meetings organised on an as-required basis. The group proposes a multi-piece installation to be added to the Sculpture and Play Trail. The aim is to provide a range of interactive, sensory experience stations for all age groups, abilities and needs, with support from U3A members and the local community. We see this as an opportunity for U3A members to share their relevant skills, knowledge and expertise, as well as securing community involvement through including local businesses and educational institutions.
