Reconstruction in Iraq, 2003Presentation by David Wright

This will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday 13th March in the McLaren Centre at Callander. David hails from Bridgwater in Somerset and studied for an engineering degree at Kings College, London. He was an engineering officer in the Royal Navy for seventeen years before becoming an engineer and ship surveyor for the Department of Transport. He has also worked as Principal Marine Surveyor for the Bermuda Government, followed by time with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency in the UK. He retired in 2008 as Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen.

In 2003, he went as a volunteer to serve in the Office for Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance in Iraq for a period of one hundred days. His talk will describe his part in the work to reconstruct the country after the invasion by a western alliance of countries to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction.

Summer School 2024u3a in Scotland

u3a in Scotland is planning to run six courses as part of a summer school based at the Stirling Court Hotel in Stirling University from Tuesday 20th August to Thursday 22nd August 2024. There are places for full-board, residential delegates, but day delegate rates are also available and are likely to suit most of our members.

  • Strolling To Admire Nature
  • Technology (introduction to programming)
