Guidelines for Prospective Members of Caldicot and District U3A Walking Group

Please wear suitable clothing including walking boots - they protect your ankles.
Take a waterproof in your pack. Also plasters and antiseptic wipes for scratches.
Take a drink on the walk, preferably hot in the winter.
If you have a medical condition, which may affect you when walking, please check with your Doctor. Ensure that someone in your group knows this. Please take sensible precautions.
Ensure you are fit enough for the walk. Walking is not a test; it should be an enjoyable experience.
The walk leader has the right to refuse any walker who is judged unfit or not properly clothed.
If you go to the start point of the walk always check with the leader beforehand as walks can be changed at the last moment.
Keep behind the leader. Please keep to the official designated footpaths and rights of way otherwise we may negate such insurances as the Third Age Trust provides. Be aware of gaps opening up in the group and warn the leader accordingly.
The Third Age Trust provide, as part of membership a limited number of insurances including Public Liability Insurance. This is not a personal accident policy however. It is a condition of any cover afforded that you are a paid up member of the U3A.
Subscriptions for the walking group are due in April or upon joining. You are welcome to participate in two walks before formally joining but please note clause above on membership and insurance.
The use of mobile phones is discouraged whilst walking except in cases of emergency.
Dogs are not permitted on U3A walks.
At start of walk the Leader should nominate 2 back markers and, if a large group middle markers as well. This will ensure that everyone stays with the group. If you start with 30 you should finish with 30! The exception to this is if a member is feeling poorly and has to return to start of walk, but they must be accompanied by 2 members of the group.
Please note guidance on keeping to the designated paths, DO NOT DEVIATE from them as by doing so you could nullify such insurance as is provided for the whole group.
Notwithstanding the above, neither Caldicot & District U3A, it's officers, walk leaders/organisers has control over the environment of the walks, the weather, any animals, or indeed any of the walkers themselves and whilst taking reasonable precautions and providing help and assistance as necessary, they cannot accept responsibility for any circumstances affecting the Health and Safety of the walkers in the group
