Tue Jul 24th The walk today is in the Blaenavon area and will be lead by Dave E. & John T. with lunch afterwards in The Rising Sun in Abersychan.
These are the details for the walk on the 24th July. I’ve changed from the walk I originally intended due to the possibility of high temperatures. The X24 bus is now the only one which has a frequent service to Blaenavon; the service through Cwmavon runs once per hour, run by Phil Anslow.
We will leave Caldicot Choir Hall at 9am, and arrive at Abersychan car park at 9.40am (the car park is at the junction of Talywain road with the road through Abersychan – we will not be parking at the Rising Sun).
We will catch the X24 bus (stop opposite car park) which goes through Talywain, Garndiffaith and Varteg, and alight just before reaching Blaenavon. We will walk up the slope to the railway line, and start walking. Remember your bus pass if you have one!
The walk is along the course of a defunct railway, now a route for cyclists and walkers. The surface is tarmac throughout, so walking boots or sturdy trainers are recommended. The course is gradual downhill, some of it under trees, but be aware of cyclists behind you! There is no mud, no long grass and no stiles or gates.
We will leave the track at Talywain and walk down Church Road to our cars and drive to the Rising Sun. Orders for meals will be phoned through during the morning.
Tue Jul 31st The walk today is in the Mitchell Troy area and will be lead by Brendon with lunch being a Picnic.
