Programme for 2017

The group meets on the first Friday in each month at 2.30pm in the Buxton Library Study/Meetings Room

Friday, 3rd February – Prominent Buxton Freemasons– Bill Weston MBE
Bill will enlighten us with his research into the lives of some influential Buxtonians, 1869- to the present day

Friday, 4th March – Deciphering old documents-Paul Beattie –Derby Records Office
Paul will talk about deciphering old documents and the handwriting

Friday, 7th April - Visit to NEC Birmingham ‘Who do you think you are Exhibition’
Coach trip with Leek U3A Group

Friday, 5th May – Problem solving- All
Members are asked to bring up problematic aspects of their current FH research

Friday, 2nd June – the history of Fashion- Notty Hornblower
Visit to Notty’s Museum in Alstonefield

Friday, 7th July – Group Discussion – Members talks
Members are asked to talk for about 10 minutes on some interesting aspect of their FH research

Friday, 5th August – NO MEETING - SUMMER BREAK

Friday, 1st September –Oral History – Anne Rogerson
Anne will update us on the Buxton Oral History project

Friday, 6th October – Photographic family records – All
Bring along your favourite family history photographs and talk about them. These could be people places or objects

Friday, 3rd November – Family History Quiz- Ian Taylor
Ian will test our knowledge and understanding of genealogy in a light hearted manner

Friday, 1st December -Christmas celebrations.

Enjoy a festive glass of sherry and a mince pie with a chance for relaxing general discussion.
