Our group has an interest in all things to do with gardening. As our name suggests, we study gardens and gardeners of the past as well as a variety of gardening topics relevant to the present. We enjoy going out visiting gardens large and small, many local and some a bit further afield, also nurseries and garden centres, and of course, each other's gardens. We meet in each other’s houses, but if you haven’t room, it doesn’t matter, we just use those who have. We swap advice, useful tips and ideas, and everyone contributes to our ‘study’ sessions. This year we are looking at plant families and their characteristics, and the soil and its inhabitants – are they friend or foe? It’s all very informal and relaxed. Sometimes we have practical sessions such as propagation and soil testing. And as all good gardeners do, we swap plants!
We seem to have become the Chapel, Whaley Bridge and Hayfield group, as most of our members are from these three areas, but of course, we welcome anyone from anywhere in the Buxton area. Do give us a ring if you would like more information.
