Wed 3/4/19- The Roman's in Britain ;
In the course of his Gallic Wars, Julius Caesar invaded Britain twice: in 55 and 54 BC. The first invasion, in late summer, was unsuccessful, gaining the Romans little else besides a beachhead on the coast of Kent.

Wed 17/4/19- The Glorious Revolution;
Fear of Catholic tyranny. The Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689 replaced the reigning king, James II, with the joint monarchy of his protestant daughter Mary and her Dutch husband, William of Orange. It was the keystone of the Whig (those opposed to a Catholic succession) history of Britain.

Wed 1/5/19- The Romans in Britain;
Hadrian's Wall was built by the Romans to keep out the unconquered people of Scotland. Construction started around A.D. 122, after a visit to Britain by Emperor Hadrian (reign A.D. 117-138), a ruler determined to consolidate the Roman Empire's borders.

Wed 15/5/19- Ancien Egypt Egypt and the Valley of the Kings;
The Valley of the Kings (Arabic: وادي الملوك‎ Wādī al Mulūk; Coptic: ϫⲏⲙⲉ, translit. džēme),[1] also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings (Arabic: وادي ابواب المملوك‎ Wādī Abwāb al Mulūk),[2] is a valley in Egypt where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, rock cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties of Ancient)

Wed 5/6/19 Christmas 1940-
In recent years, I have developed an interest in other people's memories of that Christmas. I have researched biographies, memoirs and ,most particularly, diary entries in the Mass Observation Archive. This has provided a fascinating picture of that critical time.

Wed 12/6/19- Ancient Egypt Akhenaten Rule as Pharaoh;
As Pharaoh, you will lead a people from the humble banks of the Nile River to the sprawling and wondrous world of Ancient Egypt.

This will be the last session prior to the Summer break. At the end of the meeting we can discuss the future topics for the Autumn to Christmas period.

There are some proposal for future topics on the 2019 topic page. Other topics are always welcome for discussion by the group.
