9.30am Camilla Nichol - Chief Executive, UK Antarctic Heritage Trust. A two hundred-year Antarctic adventure: a short History of Humans in Antarctica
Camilla Nichol FRGS is a geologist and museum curator. Since 2014 she is the Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust.
7.00pm Dr Rodrick Ashton - What happens to History when our leaders are mad or ill
Dr Rod Ashton is a retired GP with an interest in Political History.
10am Professor Hans Degens - 'Strong in Old Age! Don't be silly' - Professor Muscle Physiology, Manchester Metropolitan University.
Professor Hans Degens has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Liverpool (UK), the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (Sweden), the University of South Florida, Tampa (USA), and the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands). He was Assistant Professor at the Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands) before his present employment as Senior Lecturer at the Manchester Metropolitan University where he currently is Professor of Muscle Physiology. He is also a Visiting Professor at Lithuanian Sports University (Kaunas, Lithuania), a Visiting Professor at University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Targu Mures (Romania), and has an Honorary Doctorate from the Lithuanian Sports University. His main academic interest is age-related changes in skeletal muscle morphology and function.
