SHAKESPEARE'S GREATEST SOLILOQUIES AND SONNETS
[ HOW THEY REVEAL CHARACTER AND STATE OF MIND; WHAT THEY TELL US BESIDES; HOW WE SHOULD READ AND PERFORM THEM ]
Each session will look at one soliloquy and one sonnet. We shall read and analyse them, see them as part of the larger body of work, or in the case of the soliloquy, its importance to the play, how things change as a consequence of it and why and where it is positioned for maximum effect. Background information will be supplied.
We shall read each bringing out its dramatic and emotional character, in a manner similar to that used by actors in rehearsal for a play.
We shall look at speeches by JULIET, HAMLET, CLEOPATRA, LADY MACBETH, IAGO, SHYLOCK, VIOLA, MALVOLIO AND BEATRICE and many others as chosen by the course participants.
When and where will it be held? Every 2nd and 4th THURSDAY in the months between 10 and 12 o'clock at SL's home address.
How long will it run ? The course will run over 14 sessions, that is about 7 - 8 months
When will it start: The first session is due to be held on THURSDAY, the 27th June 2019.
Everybody with an interest is very welcome. Guidance and help is given.
