Questions and comments on the advantages and costs to a post-empirical Britain |
This course intends to look at, research into and comment on when, how and why Great
Britain came to terms with its role at home and in the world, after the fall of its empire.
The questions discussed will look at how relationships between the former colonies and
the United Kingdom changed, what the former expected from the latter and how this
affected Britain’s cohesion as a society.
We shall also look at some of the remaining territories and societies, such as Gibraltar,
the Falkland Islands and islands in the Caribbean etc. , and at how Britain sees its
responsibility towards situations in Hong Kong and other places with which it has been
historically connected in an empirical role.
The course will probably take 8 to 10 sessions on ZOOM and is proposed to take place
every 2nd and 4th Monday at 10 am. Starting date MONDAY,the 14th of DECEMBER.
