GROUP CURRENTLY FULL
We take an amicable decision of where we go to eat, usually for two or three times in succession, before we change our venue. If the venue does not make the grade we tend not to return! Life is too short to suffer too many bad roast dinners. Therefore we do have our favourite places which we have returned to but we are also always more than willing to try somewhere new.
The organization is kept to an absolute minimum. The Group’s Co-ordinator generally books the table and the members e-mail or phone with their ‘ayes’ or ‘nays’, and the numbers are confirmed with the hostelry and that’s that! We do not take deposits or orders prior to the booking and if anyone has any special dietary requests these are passed on to the hostelry when the booking is made. We each pay for what we have ordered.
We always have a great time as there is such a cross section of people in each Group with stories and jokes to tell and experiences to share. Indeed, there seems to be no subject that cannot come under scrutiny one way or another. These discussions are now carried on after the meal as one of our members holds an ‘open house’ for coffee and tea afterwards if there are no plans to go on anywhere else. For example, we lunched at the Cross Keys in Epperstone last year when the gardens were open to the public. Naturally we were all very interested in seeing what was going on and it made for a very interesting finish to our lunch.
Our original Group was so popular that we were able to form a second one.
