Family History, sometimes referred to generically, as genealogy, is all about discovering your family tree, and finding out your origins.
We have a single group which will combine both beginners and Improvers some wishing to start to trace their history or others who have only recently started and need to know how to take the next step, whilst others in the group who already have some experience of the subject strive to go further. Like all U3A groups the emphasis is on self / group help . This Group looks at all aspects of Family History.
We usually spend the first part of our meeting looking at some aspect of information gathering – the census, accessing archive material, or at “family history” as opposed to a collection of names and dates.
Over tea and coffee we get down to problem solving for individuals, displaying information and so on. As this course combines basic elements we would expect members to gradually outgrow it and move on more advanced ways of fulfilling there need to track down the histories they are pursuing – For those who advance beyond the groups boundaries it is always good to see them come back, and share there experiences and accomplishments!
You are welcome to join us…..it's good to know who you are – including the skeletons in the cupboards!
