First Tuesday each month 10.00am at various locations
We are a group who are interested in the architecture/history of our old churches.
We got our name from Google where the definition is given as:
“A person who is strongly interested, in an amateur capacity, in ecclesiology, church architecture, history and church art, and visits churches in order to view the buildings for themselves, as opposed to visiting them for religious reasons.”
We visit a different church on the first Tuesday of the month where we are shown round by someone from the church, given history and look at points of interest. This lasts about an hour and we then go for coffee somewhere local to the church. We are still visiting local churches. It is amazing how many there are still to visit.
A previous visit was to Grantchester where we were shown round by the temporary rector. She also told us about informing the film crew in the church, of their errors in their setting up of a communion scene while filming the popular TV drama of the same name. We then went to the famous Orchard Tea Gardens for coffee.
