Steampunk - Eastbourne, 11th September
Not quite sure what to expect, a group of nineteen headed south to Eastbourne to sample the Steampunk Festival organised by the Eastbourne Bonfire Society. We arrived on the sea-front by the Pier just after 11am having enjoyed a trouble free journey.
What greeted us was a gloriously sunny day which considering the awful weather the previous day was very welcome. The first port of call for most of us was a drink and something to eat...Harry Ramsden's was particularly well frequented. Others enjoyed a panini washed down by Pimms or a pint just off of the beach. Suitably fortified we set off along the promenade to find out more about 'Steampunk".
We met many interesting and colourful characters, here is a small selection of some of the sights we saw.....

After indulging in ice-creams and cream teas we set off for home. The journey was good until we got close to the Dartford Crossing on the M25 but our coach driver had a few tricks up his sleeve and got us to the Blackwall Tunnel but here we joined an horrendous traffic jam. Undaunted, our driver waved a magic wand and took us on a short detour which (a) avoided virtually all of the traffic jam and (b) earned him a spontaneous round of applause. We arrived back at RVH a tired but happy group having enjoyed a fantastic day out.
