Outlined Programme for 2019
In December 2018, the group is looking forward to 2019 and has already agreed the focus will be on studying British Artists, at least for the first six months of the year. Once the individual members of the group have selected the artist of their choice for their presentation, a full and detailed list of dates and subject matter will be posted here. So watch this space!

The Art Appreciation group continues to be attended by a small, but loyal, number of members, averaging 10 per meeting. We still meet every second Wednesday afternoon in the Heritage Centre from 2 until 4. Cost per meeting is £2 per person, which includes tea and biscuits. As our outgoings are £11 for room hire, and 50p each to the centre for refreshments, you can see that we just about cover our costs and do not have much to spare.
Members are great at stepping up to the plate and delivering presentations on artists, including sculptors, from our chosen topic. This year we started off by completing our study of women artists - meant to be a short theme, but became a fully fledged topic. We then spent the next six months taking on an in-depth look at Dutch artists, starting with a DVD and then having talks by members on Mondrias, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Breugel, Bosch, Rembrandt, and Isaac and Josef Israel. We usually have two presentations at each meeting.
In August we had a special treatment and had a speaker - very local artist/sculptor Theresa Wells, plus a farewell cake for Philip Pomeroy before setting sail for Australia.
There was no meeting in September, and in October, despite my fear and trepidation, we managed without projectionist Philip, thanks to the projector operating skills of Helen King and Kathy Morgan. We started one of our 'lucky dip' short themes - Still Life - where members chose one or two pictures and said a little about them.
November saw us completing this short topic with a talk by Paula Jones on Northern Artists.
There is no meeting in December, but come January 2018 we will embark on a new topic, The Countryside and English Artists.
