John Walters

John is a Devon based artist and ecologist. He paints wildlife directly from life in the field capturing the life and vitality of his subjects. In 2017 he was awarded the HH Bloomer Award by
The Linnean Society.

He also carries out a range of ecological work surveying invertebrates, birds, mammals and reptiles. He specialises in the identification of ground beetles and bees. His recent projects have included an invertebrate survey of road verges for the Highways Agency, surveying and studying the ecology of the 'world's rarest spider' the Horrid Ground Weaver for Buglife, teaching beetle identification to Plymouth University students and studying the Narrow-headed Ant for part of the Back from the Brink project.

He has also worked as a consultant entomologist and naturalist on many television and radio programmes.
