Poetry Reading Group,Fishponds
What it is: A group for people who like to share and discuss poetry, and how it affects us.
When it is: Monthly, 2nd Friday, 10.30-12.30.
Where it is: Convenor's home in Channon's Hill, Central Fishponds.
A lively group, we choose our programme jointly - often modern poetry (technically that's post-1900) but we like the idea of retreating further into the past sometimes. We bring our own choices to the group according to the programme, read the poems round the room and talk about how they have affected us and how successful (or otherwise) we think they are, sometimes moving on to subjects raised by the content. We have previously looked at WW1 poems and the poetry of Robert Frost, John Clare and W H Auden. We are currently looking at the poems of Emily Dickinson.
We have a limit of eight people in the group and do not have any vacancies at present.
Since lockdown we have been sharing our poem choices and our responses to them by email. We have also had some Zoom meetings as a way of seeing and talking to other group members.
