Someone To Go With
What it is: This group is open to those members who have a) been a member of the Bristol U3A for at least a year and b) belong to at least one other group.
The purpose of this group is to find a companion for any particular event or outing. So if, for example, a member wanted to go to the Hippodrome to watch Swan Lake, and would prefer to go with a companion, they would simply select a possible companion from the members available and contact them with a view to going to the event together.
Alternatively members may simply email the group convenor and she will forward the invitation to all members. Some people are more comfortable with this.
Roughly once a month, the leader circulates information about things happening in Bristol that might be of interest to people in the group, including some of the more unusual activities and events that members might not be aware of - in the hope that members will be inspired to try something new and - maybe - use the group to find Someone To Go With!
There is no obligation to attend any event, and there is no limit to the number of members anybody may invite. Similarly there are no rules regarding costs, although U3A members usually pay for themselves and come to a mutually acceptable arrangement over transport costs.
There are several likely events listed below but if a member would like to add another, then please tell the group convenor. At the moment the categories are Museums, Theatre, National Trust, Days out, Local events, Exhibitions, Opera/Classical music, Jazz, Talks, Entertainment, Comedy, and BBC Bristol Audience
If you would like your name added to the database then please contact the group convenor, by clicking on the pigeon "Click to send a message" button, and tell her the types of outings you are interested in, together with your preferred method of contact, e.g. phone or email. It would help if you confirmed you have been a member of the Bristol U3A for at least one year, and also advised which other group(s) you have joined.
The group convenor will then send you a spreadsheet with all the categories listed, together with the names and contact details of members who would enjoy that type of outing. Every time the database alters, you will receive an email with the new update.
Please tell the convenor if you have any problems accessing or downloading the database.
This group does not meet on a regular basis, but we do aim to meet once or twice a year, just to keep in touch. Details will be in the Newsletter.
