Status: Active, open to new members
Group Leader:
When: Monthly on Thursdays
3rd Thursday of the month, meeting at 10:00 for a half or full day trip

We are a group of interested people, who get together to explore this fascinating subject, which is literally at 'the bedrock' of our lives.

We meet in December to plan field trips to sites of geological interest in the local area and beyond for the following year and members volunteer to research and lead trips they are interested in. No prior knowledge is needed - just a willingness to learn and get involved.

Bristol and its surrounds is very fortunate to have many nationally significant and famous geological sites to visit.

This past year we have had experts to guide us around the Saltford Trail and Soudley Valley in the Forest of Dean.

We have also had trips to Aust, Goblin Combe, the quarries of the Malverns, the spectacular Jurassic cliffs and beach at Llanwit Major in South Wales and two trips further afield to the Jurassic Coast in Dorset and Dartmoor to examine the granite tors.

Tony led a very interesting field trip to the Blaise Estate in Bristol, pointing out rock outcrops from Devonian to Triassic times as we walked up the gorge and back via Goram’s Chair.
