Poetry Writing, Redland
What: A group for people to practise and hone their poetry-writing skills.
When is it: 3rd Tuesday of the month, 2 - 4pm.
Where is it: Lower Redland Road, Redland.
Sometimes it's a free choice but we usually work to a theme chosen previously. We may write on a single subject, a particular poetic form such as a sonnet, or we may look at a published poet's work for inspiration, noting mood and expression.
Our poems are read and discussed by the whole group with friendly enthusiasm to encourage each other to improve. Not all our themes are serious! Here is one of our recent poems:
PAPER by Val Jenkins
It feels like a hundred years ago
they told us that very soon we'd see
a paperless office -(yipee?)
Though I used a computer every day
I kept a paper copy filed away.
Today I'm in a house that overflows
with books and paper, to my great delight,
while my family call me a "Luddite".
I worry that they're in an internet bubble:
when the lecky's off the whole world's in trouble.
