Opera for All, Broadmead
What it is: This is a group for all who love opera and those who would like to know more about opera. No previous knowledge is needed to enjoy the programme. If you like brilliant singing, often with silly plots, then this is for you. We play generous musical excerpts from operas. The convenor generally presents an opera, except when he is not in Bristol when some other member does it. If anyone would like to present an opera or introduce a chosen work you may but you don't have to. We have a substantial collection of CDs and notes and we discuss each term's programme before it appears in the Annual Bulletin or newsletters.
When it is: The 2nd and 4th Tuesday in the month 10.00 am for 10.30 am to 12 pm approx. Except the 4th Tuesday in December, July and August.
Where it is: The Knibb Room in Broadmead Baptist Church, Broadmead where the monthly meetings were held (and may be again), though we may occasionally have to occupy some other room there. The room is to the left of the staircase on the top floor. There is access by lift.
Please come punctually between 10 and 10.30 am. Coffee is normally available but this may depend on members helping with it.
I regret that I have to make a charge of £10 at the beginning of the autumn and spring terms and £5 for the summer term towards the cost of room hire. Those who would like to try the group may come to one session in a term but will have to pay the charge for that term if they come again. We also charge 50p for coffee and biscuits.
The accommodation has room for more people and we would welcome more members. We are fortunate to have the notes and CDs of a previous leader.
Proposed dates for the year are in the Dates for Your Diary section below this page. Items may be changed in the light of views of the group and other exigencies but we generally try to stick to what we have proposed.
If you would like to join us please contact the previous leader, Robert, on 0117 968 2639 or send him an e-mail by clicking on the pigeon "send a message" link. If you wish to phone please avoid 1pm till 2pm and after 4.30pm.
Wheel-chair access. No parking other than public car parks in Broadmead. 5 mins to the nearest bus stop and many buses go there.
