Opera for All, Broadmead
What is it: This is a group for all who love opera and for all who would like to know more about opera. We play generous musical excerpts from operas. The convenor generally presents an opera, except when he is not in Bristol, when some other member does it. If anyone would like to present an opera or introduce a chosen work you may but you don't have to. (No previous knowledge of opera is needed to enjoy the programme!). We have a substantial collection of CDs and notes and we discuss each term's programme before it appears in the Bulletin or newsletters.
When is it: The 2nd and 4th Tuesday in a month 10.00 am for 10.30 am to 12 pm approx. The autumn term 2018 will begin on Tuesday 11th September.
Where is it: The Knibb Room in Broadmead Baptist Church, Broadmead where the monthly meetings are held though we may occasionally have to occupy some other room there. The room is to the left of the staircase on the top floor. There is access by lift to that floor. Please come punctually between 10 and 10.30 am. Coffee is normally available.
There is a new policy by the U3A for groups which meet fortnightly. The U3A will only pay a certain amount for a room whereas the cost of our room may exceed this. Accordingly we may have to make a small charge at the beginning of each term. We will have to pay £3 per term from September 2018. We also charge 50p for coffee and biscuits.
The accommodation has room for more people and we would welcome more members.
The leader is Robert Walters who is fortunate to have the notes and CDs of the previous leader,Paul Foss. Robert can be contacted on 0117 9682639 or send him an e-mail by clicking on the pigeon in the right-hand margin. If you wish to phone please avoid 1pm till 2pm and 5.30pm till 7pm.
Proposed dates for the rest of the summer and for next year are in the Dates for Your Diary section below this page. Items may be changed in the light of views of the group and other exigencies but we generally try to stick to what we have proposed.
