Music, the Blues and its Branches
What it is: A group dedicated to the study and appreciation of blues music and its roots and influence.
When it is: Monthly on the third Thursday, 2.00 to 4.00pm.
Where it is: Usually in Convenor's home, Coronation Road BS3 but currently on Zoom.
Since the beginning of the group we have explored the origins and legacy of the blues from Africa to the present day. We have found that the blues has given birth to many forms of closely related music such as jazz, gospel, soul, rhythm & blues, rock'n'roll and 'World Music' etc.
Now we include many of these forms of music, and for the first hour we feature topics, or individual artists, followed by playing 'open' selections brought by members of the group for discussion and enjoyment. Most formats can be accommodated, including vinyl, and internet access means that almost any request can be located.
For further information or to contact the Group Convenor, click on the pigeon 'send a message' link, see the latest Annual Bulletin for a telephone number, or send an email to the South Bristol Groups Coordinator.
Steps negotiable by wheelchair, ground floor toilet. Parking outside with visitor permit or Asda car park nearby. Plenty of buses to Bedminster Parade 5 minutes walk.
