German for Beginners
This is a small SELF HELP group, run by its members with the assistance of a fluent German speaking 'moderator'.
It is very much a 'Beginners' group with one or two of its current members having studied German to GCE 'O'level' many years ago, and the remainder having no prior education in German. Anyone with more advanced qualifications in German, or a more extensive capability in the language, would find themselves beyond the competence of this group. The primary aim of the group is to enable its members to be able to communicate with and be understood by other German speakers in normal day to day situations. It approaches its learning in a light-hearted but conscientious manner.
We are working from a formal text book to provide a structure to our learning but try to supplement this with some degree of limited conversation and copies of text from other books as a supplement whenever we are able to.
We meet for 90 minutes in members front rooms, every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, with changes to that schedule, by agreement with members, when necessary.
