Spotlight on the Digital Photography Group Leaders

The Group Leaders within the U3A are all volunteers and give their own time to run these groups. The Digital Photography Group is run by two such people, Pete Arthur & Pete Bowers, so to help the members to understand why these people volunteer they tell us about their passion for Photography at Spotlight on Group Leader Pete Arthur & Spotlight on Group Leaders Peter Bowers.
Bridlington U3A Digital Photography Group, meeting regularly on Monday afternoons in Bempton Village Hall, consists of a group of people with wide-ranging photographic experience, from absolute beginners to old hands. We also have regular days out to explore a variety of different environments and some of us have recently visited Whitby, Burnley Hall Gardens, Bondeville Model Village and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Samples of our photographs can be found on the U3A website at Digital Photography Groups Gallery.
As photographers the elements we hold in common are an enthusiasm for taking photographs and a willingness to go on learning about how to take better photographs. We readily concede that none of us “knows it all” but collectively we do know quite a lot. Part of modern photography is now concerned not just with the taking of photographs but also in post-processing in a computer. Computer manipulation of images has taken the place of the photographer’s darkroom. Now we also learn how to transfer our pictures from the camera into a computer and then, using an appropriate computer program, improve the image and finally present that same original photograph to its best advantage.
