Brecon U3A Archive

Brecon U3A maintains an archive of documents and photographs which record the founding of the group in 1984 and its development over the past 30 years. The archive includes materials such as programmes, newsletters, minutes of meetings, details of special interest groups, study days, day trips and workshops.

The founder of Brecon U3A was Dr Rosemary Maling. She organised a public meeting or "forum" at Brecon Library in 1984 to find out if there would be interest in forming a new U3A group in the area. Ten people initially signed up at that meeting and so Brecon U3A was born. Early meetings were held at Brecon Museum. As the group grew, later venues included The Teachers' Centre at Coleg Howell Harris, The Deanery at Brecon Cathedral and the Subud Centre, with annual general meetings held at Treberfydd House. As membership continued to grow, Brecon U3A finally moved to its present location at Theatr Brycheiniog, in a scenic location alongside the canal.

New material is constantly being added to the archive which is available for all Brecon U3A members to view. There are many hidden gems!
