Hill Walking Group
We are a small friendly group who meet on the 1st, 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each month to walk in the wild and open countryside of the nearby areas. We suspend the walks over Christmas, Easter and the summer as members often have other commitments at these times.
1st Wednesdays walks are typically 6 - 8 miles, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays walks are typically 8 - 10 miles in length (all exceptionally longer or shorter!). 3rd Wednesday is recce week where all members can, singly or in pairs, recce walks to contribute to the schedule
We try not to be beaten by the weather but obviously will not walk if the weather is too unpleasant or hazardous. Our first course would be to consider an alternative walk less prone to the elements, but will cancel and re-arrange when appropriate.
Because we often walk in open or mountainous countryside members are required to wear suitable clothes and footwear and are required to accept personal responsibility for their own health and safety.
We share the planning of walks between all members of the SIG, so we have great variety of locations and degree of difficulty and members are free to choose which they wish to take part in.
Details of forthcoming walks are circulated to members by e-mail and a programme of all planned walks is also regularly updated and circulated. For the latest details of forthcoming walks - use the link on the right.
New members are always welcome. Please contact us for more information using the message link on the right (please include your phone number so that we can phone you to discuss).
