I’ve got all the information I can from family members what is the next step?

You could search to see if anyone else has done any research on your family. Many thousands of family histories have been published over the years. The Society of Genealogists holds the largest collection of such works in its library and its catalogue can be searched free on its website.

Genealogical sites such as Ancestry.com, Genes Reunited etc. have trees compiled by members. However, be aware that some information posted by “amateur” family historians is incorrect. Always check original sources.

The Guild of One-Name Studies is the world's leading organisation for one-name studies. A one-name study is a project researching facts about a surname and all the people who have held it, as opposed to a particular pedigree (the ancestors of one person) or descendancy (the descendants of one person or couple). Currently, over 2,500 people have registered over 8,000 study surnames.
