Ten Pin Bowling Group
A GROUP FORMED TO DO NOTHING BUT PLAY TEN-PIN BOWLING, GET FIT, HAVE FUN, AND TO HAVE LUNCH
We all know what ten-pin bowling is - it’s a sport in which a player (called a "bowler") rolls a bowling ball down a wooden lane and towards ten pins positioned at the end of the lane. The objective is to score the highest pin-fall by knocking down as many pins as possible. While professional ten-pin bowling tournaments are held in numerous countries, the sport is commonly played as a hobby by millions of people around the world.
Ten-pin bowling was introduced in the United Kingdom in 1960 and ten-pin owling took the UK by storm, with alleys opening up one after the other. At its peak, there were over 160 bowling alleys in the UK, but a lack of re-investment and waning interest left the sport in a sorry state. Many alleys were converted into Bingo halls. The industry nearly collapsed, with two thirds of the existing alleys closing over the next few years.
Re-investment in the 1980s led to the construction of many bright, modern and attractive sites and the second golden age of bowling began and today it remains a popular entertainment and an easy way to exercise.
To take advantage of day-time low peak usage a group has been formed within BNB to hire ten-pin alleys in the morning at a local bowling alley. Afterwards a pub lunch is available for those who wish to take part thus completing the social as well as the physical aspect of the activity.
Why not join the group and come and try your luck or re-live your youth by impressing others with your ‘helicopter’ delivery of the ball. Or just come and have fun and enjoy the company other others.
The group meets periodically for two hours at Lakeside Super-bowl Nuneaton with lunch at the local pub if required.
Contact AnnA and she will be able to let you know when the next session is planned. Every one is welcome to come and join even if you have never done it before. We positively welcome new members. Lunch at the local pub is available afterwards if required but is optional.
