THE LOCAL HISTORY GROUP EXPLORES THE HISTORY OF THE BEDWORTH, NUNEATON, BULKINGTON AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
Local history is the study of history within a local area and it always involves the local community. Because of its personal and local nature, local history is mostly researched and documented by local societies and groups. It is these groups who preserve the written, photographic material or sometimes a local historic building or other historic site.
An interest group within BNB U3A meets to discuss aspects of the history of Bedworth, Nuneaton, Bulkington and the surrounding area. A topic is decided by the group and visits, speakers and discussions are organised around that theme.
If you are a BNB born and bred inhabitant, you can contribute to this little known but important subject. Do you remember anything that is local? Did your mum or gran tell you anything about the ‘olden days’? Do you have some old photographs or some written material that is generally not available in the public record?
However if you are not local to the area (and many of our group aren’t) and wish to find out how the region has developed then come along and learn and contribute to our understanding.
So, local or new-comer if you want to find out how the area has developed from the agricultural beginnings of the Middle Ages to the one we know today then this could be an interest group for you.
This group meets at the Chilvers Coton Hertiage Centre, Avenue Road on the last Monday of every month at 14:00 (except May and August)
Contact MaryHS and come and find out about the place you live or, more importantly, help the group find out more about the people and the local area.
