A SERIES OF MEETINGS AND VISITS TO STUDY AND APPRECIATE ART IN ALL ITS MANY FORMS
The human being outstrips all other mammals on one major respect – he is capable of what is known as civilisation and has the power to stand outside himself and as such is capable of major forms of experience love, hate, hunger, and lust. Man uses art to communicate these experiences to others; this could be said to be a visual language and is an important part of creativity.
What we aim to do in the group is to stand outside ourselves improve our ability to look at and question what we see, for example when we see a green field at the side of the motorway how do we know whether the field is flat or has slopes and hollows in it, when we are looking at a piece of sculpture or a painting do we see something in it that our neighbour doesn’t see. Why do we think that this happens?
No experience and prior knowledge of art is required, just interest and enthusiasm, and a lively and enquiring mind. We hope as a group to find local creative people who can talk to us about their view of art and stimulate discussions.
Every one is welcome to come and join. We positively welcome new members. Any new potential members of the group can come and sit and listen (and join in) if you are not sure or just want to experience this subject and activity.
Meetings are held once a month on the second Tuesday of the month and alternate between a visit to a gallery and a meeting held at the Nuneaton Museum in Riversley Park to discuss the previous visit and plan the next.
The discussion meeting at the Museum starts at 14:00 and goes on to 16:00.
Museum meetings will be; Oct, Dec, Feb, April & June (August no meeting)
We are a small friendly group and our efforts allow us to appreciate the art that is around us. If you have any specific areas of interest then mention them at a discussion meeting. The group is willing to respond to suggestions or questions and can organise itself to respond to your issue or interest.
