Rosemoor - June 2023

Flowering Border An almost perfect day, sunny with a refreshing breeze, for our trip to RHS Rosemoor on 8th June. Forty of us set out from Blandford at 8 o'clock and after a coffee stop at Exeter Services (not to be recommended) Trees and shrubs we had a lovely drive through Devon lanes to Great Torrington.

Rose Garden Most of us started in the more formal gardens - a block of eight 'rooms' -including two featuring roses with reds being enhanced by whites and other varied colours, many with beautiful perfume. Everything was at its vibrant best, thoughtful attention to planting from hot beds through to cooler ones and wonderful herbs and vegetables, all very well tended. The Cool Garden

Gorgeous Pink Roses Next we wandered through a wild meadow with trees where some of us purchased refreshments from a shepherd's hut and enjoyed them sitting in the shade. Yellow Roses in full bloom

Flowering Tulip Tree Duly revived, we entered Lady Anne's historic garden via an underpass. She developed this in the 1960s and it was bequeathed to the RHS in 1988. Particularly unusual was the restful stone garden with succulents and water features.

A stroll through paths in another meadow led to the lake and a longer woodland walk with welcome dappled shade brought us back to the entrance facilities, a refreshing cuppa and a browse in the well stocked nursery and gift shop.

Beside the lake Five hours passed quickly with so much to see and enjoy in good company. Roses & Clematis

A relaxing journey home driven by Neil and back on schedule. Once again our many thanks to Lynn, Jean and Stella for organising another wonderful garden visit.
