WHENWednesday, 11th May 2022 10 - 11.30

A group meeting was held on Wednesday, 11th May and members are completing a preferences form over the next week. It is hoped that the future of this group will be decided by the end of the month. Note that this group still needs a leader to be able to continue.

****************************

November 2021 a two-afternoon trial workshop was run for new group members who did not have much online research experience. Amongst other things we covered pedigree charts/records, freeBMD, GRO, electoral roll, googlemaps and Ordnance Survey maps, Find-A-Grave, familysearch, freeReg, freeCEN, and Census. With a few modifications this workshop could run again. A pre-requisite would be good IT skills with abilities such as being able to create logins, navigate websites, etc. without assistance. A minimum of 6 people would be needed to make this worthwhile so please contact me if you would be interested. New members would likely benefit from this.

****************************

Members will continue to receive group mails when there is something of interest to pass on. For instance Durham County Records Office is restarting family tree talks November 2021. Please see recent email for details. Our libraries are no longer offering free home logon to the library edition of Ancestry and you need to go to the library as you did pre-Covid.

****************************

Do you wish to know more about your ancestors - where they came from and how they lived? If so, then beginner or experienced alike will benefit from this enthusiastic group who share knowledge and provide friendly advice on all aspects of family history. The meeting subject is chosen in advance and can be led by the group leader or a member of the group. Meetings are occasionally held in other venues such as a trip to Darlington Library where group members were able to explore the family history facilities that libraries offer.

For a variety of reasons this group has been in hibernation for the last few months.

New members will be most welcome.
