The Art & Architecture Group was established about five years ago to bring together a group of like minded U3A members to view, observe and enjoy art and architecture in all its forms.

The intention through study visits, lectures, informal addresses and film, is to broaden interest, challenge understanding and create enjoyable occasions which remain truly memorable.

The group has visited Glasgow and its museums and galleries, Colchester and Constable Country, Norwich and the Sainsbury Gallery, Oxford and Blenheim Palace, Liverpool and The Lady Lever Art Gallery - all those soap adverts of childhood) and this year are embarking upon a packed study visit to the less well known locations in and around Edinburgh.

Day visits have included Scampston Hall near Malton with its regency country house, Capability Brown gardens and Piet Oudolf designed walled gardens, Saltaire and the model village, Wakefield (The Hepworth), Gibside, The Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough, Christopher Dresser, his design and Linthorpe Pottery, Leonardo da Vinci at the Laing Gallery and the Old Gardens and the apple trees in Durham City.

We do not establish an annual scheduled programme of events but rather respond to opportunities and ideas as they arise.

Membership is set at £5/annum plus travel/overhead costs arising from individual events.
