U3A Patchwork and Quilting Group Illustrate Community Spirit !

Several ladies belonging to the U3A' Patchwork and Quilting' Group demonstrated a strong sense of community spirit when they, recently, produced hand -sown , 700 metres of bunting for display at the 'Biddulph Festival.' -----

The joint leader of the 'Patchwork and Quilting' Group, Mavis Hancock, was approached by the Festival Committee and asked if it were possible that the Group could replace the present bunting as it was well past it's 'sell by date.'

A group of the ladies agreed and gave up a couple of Saturday to produce the bunting as well as cutting out all the individual pieces and sewing some at home. All the fabric has been donated and it has produced banners of a myriad of patterns and colours. The bunting will be displayed in Biddulph High Street and outside Biddulph Town Hall during the whole of the Festival.

Mavis Hancock commented,'It has been very hard work producing the 700 metres of bunting but we have also had fun making them. We feel that it important that Biddulph U3A, who now has around 600 members, is seen as an integral part of the local community.'
