Membership

How to Join Beverley & District u3a

Membership of Beverley & District u3a costs £15 per annum. Please note that some group meetings attract an additional nominal charge to cover room hire and refreshments.

You can apply to join, or renew your membership using the membership form provided via the link on the right of this page. The Membership fee can be paid for in cash, by cheque or by BACS bank transfer. Membership forms should be sent to the Membership Secretary; contact details are included on the membership form.

Membership records are kept on a central database called Beacon. Only the essential information we need to keep in contact with members is included. For this reason, under the Data Protection Act (GDPR), the membership form includes the requirement to consent to this. Your rights under the Act are set out on the form.

Beverley & District u3a is a registered UK charity and is eligible for GIFT AID; Please sign this part of the form if you pay UK tax. We receive £3.75 for each subscription if you do so, at no cost to you.

Members receive a membership card on receipt of payment.

All members will receive a renewal notice in good time.

Benefits of joining Beverley & District u3a

In addition to access to all Beverley & District u3a activities members receive:

  • Access to activities conducted by other local u3a’s within the East Yorkshire Accord, so you can take part in the activities of some other u3a groups in the east Yorkshire area. Access is subject to a vacancy being available and to the agreement of the affiliate's group coordinator. Links to websites for other members of the East Yorkshire Accord are provided on the right of this page.
  • Access to regional and national events and courses.
  • The national magazine Third Age Matters posted five times annually (optional, please tick if required on the application form).
  • A discount at all East Riding Council (ERYC) leisure centres. East Riding Yorkshire Council offer a membership discount to u3a members using their Leisure Centres. Apply using this EYRC Application form. For full details contact leisure@eastriding.gov.co.uk.

The Third Age Trust

Joining Beverley & District u3a brings you a wide range of benefits provided by The Third Age Trust, our parent body.

The Third Age Trust website, which you can access via the "u3a" button above includes a wide range of resources of potential interest to members. The website includes a learning zone which has a whole range of online groups that you can join, and there is a subject interest network for pretty much any subject you can imagine.

If you belong to the u3a, you can subscribe to their newsletter, which gives members access to u3a Friends Extra. u3a Friends Extra is a benefits website providing wide range of offers, discounts and additional services. It has been developed exclusively for members of the u3a Friends newsletter community.

How we keep touch

Members are kept in touch with all activities as follows

  • A comprehensive quarterly newsletter is sent to all members.
  • A list of active interest groups is sent quarterly.
  • A list of groups actively seeking new members/possible new groups is sent regularly.
  • This website provides full, up-to-date details of all groups and events.
  • There is a members-only Facebook group. This can be accessed by searching Facebook for “Beverley & District U3A”, or directly using the link given right. The Facebook page provides a platform for announcements from group coordinators, as well as for individuals to post items of interest to the u3a membership.
  • Group coordinators keep in contact with their group members. This is typically via email. A number of groups also use WhatsApp to keep in touch.
