Marie played host once again while we enjoyed the wide range of music chosen by group members.
1. Pete: Stravinsky: The Soldier’s Tale
A theatrical work featuring a pact made with the devil which, when contravened, brings the inevitable conclusion!
2. Brenda: John Skisa, a friend of Brenda and her husband, composed and played a piano piece entitled ‘Song for Iker’ from the Album ‘Dreaming’.
3. Diana:
a) Elgar. ‘Chanson de Matin’ played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
4. Annabel: Dave Brubeck quartet plays ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story.
5. Geoff: Benny Goodman and his Band play ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ from the first jazz concert piece played at the Carnegie Hall which features a great drum solo by Gene Krupa
6. Suzanne: from The Beatles White Album: Paul McCartney sings ‘Blackbird’.
7. Marie: Phamie Gow, a Gaelic composer and pianist, plays ‘Rackwick Bay’, a location situated
in the Orkneys near the town of Hoy.
8. Pete: Arthur Lyman plays an instrumental version of ‘Yellow Bird’ with sounds similar to those
of a steel band.
9. Diana: Strauss, from ‘Four Last Songs’, the final song ‘At dusk’ sung by Felicity Lott.
