COVID-19 Update, 28 Aug 21, on behalf of the Committee.

We’re very pleased to be making plans for fully re-starting u3A activities after the long enforced break:

‘Group Leaders’ Meeting’: Tuesday, 31st August, in St Aidan’s Hall, Church St. Groups’ status, leader(s), venue, etc will be confirmed. Arrangements for groups’ finances, bookings & trips, Risk Assessments (incl any pandemic-related matters such as vaccinations, masks etc) and Health & Safety will be covered. u3A 40th Anniversary (2022) - how to celebrate? - will be discussed.

‘Membership Morning’: Monday 6th September, in the Guildhall, Marygate, from 10am - 12noon. This is an opportunity to come along and see which interest groups are on offer this coming year, to meet the group leaders and to find out more about the subject or the meeting arrangements. (The Timetable Summary, at the foot of this website’s Groups page, shows a weekly 'what’s on, when’).

‘Members’ Tea & Scones’: Tuesday 21st September, in St Aidan’s Hall, Church St, anytime from 2pm to 3.30pm. A welcome opportunity to meet friends, old and new, and to enjoy some socialising u3A-style. Book in advance, please, with our Social Secretary (via Contact page of website) by 15th Sep.

AGM: Monday 4th October, in St Aidan’s Hall, Church St, from 10.00am - 12noon. Agenda, Nomination forms & invitations to propose Resolutions will all be sent to members before the end of August.

Open Meetings: These will usually be held, as they were pre-pandemic, on the 1st Monday of the month, in St Aidan’s Hall, Church St, from 10.30am - 12noon, with tea & coffee available from 10am. However the first one (with guest speaker) will not be until Mon 1st November.

Interest Group Meetings: On individual group pages you’ll find more information, and there’s also a contact button to email the group leader with any questions.

Berwick U3A is an organisation for retired and semi-retired people living in the town, and surrounding areas. We aim to bring people together for learning, leisure, fitness and fun. We have over three hundred members and over fifty active groups, covering a huge range of interests. Each of the groups is run by a volunteer leader; any of our members can set up a group and become a group leader, as long as the chosen activity is suited to the vision of the U3A.

It is easy to join Berwick U3A. All you need to do is fill in the short application form and pay the annual fee of £10. You will then be free to join as many or as few groups as you wish. For practical reasons, some of our groups need to limit their numbers; for example, some meet in members’ homes, where space is limited. If you find that a group you are interested in is full, please contact us. There may be other members who are interested in setting up a new group.

We hold an open meeting each month, usually on the first Monday. These meetings are free of charge to members. Open meetings provide an opportunity to socialise and to enjoy presentations from invited speakers. Non-members are welcome to attend one open meeting to sample what is on offer.

Some of our activities are free, while others make a small charge to cover the cost of room hire. Outings and theatre visits are costed to cover transport, entrance fees, ticket, etc. We always aim to keep charges as low as possible. For further details check the groups.

We publish free newsletters during the year to keep you informed of our activities and events. For the most up-to-date information, please check the Notice Board on this Welcome Page, U3A News and the Events section of the website.
