Chemistry: The Natural History of the Elements
Many people are interested in the night sky - astronomy - and many more in our health - medicine. The aim of this course is look at atoms, the basic connection between these, and all other, fields of endeavour. We’ll look at their formation in stars and their distribution around the universe; at the minerals beneath our feet (so-called inorganic chemistry); and within our bodies (organic chemistry). No pressure! This is for fun, not for exams. I’ll first look at air pollution - a relatively simple topic but one with profound practical implications.
To meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month, 2 - 4pm, in the Aidan Room of the United Reformed Church, Spittal, starting on 2nd October.
