Update from Group Leader, 30th Aug 21
The Berwick U3A geology group enjoyed fortnightly Zoom talks on ‘Geology and Landscapes’ throughout the 2020/2021 season. During the summer months, we had three short outings walking around Berwick town centre to look at the large variety of building stones used from medieval times to the present.
The consensus amongst group members for the 2021/2022 programme is that we should have a mix of face-to-face meetings and Zoom meetings. Zoom meetings suit some members better than face-to-face meetings, although I appreciate that not everyone is able to use the technology. Face-to-face talks will take place on the first Wednesday morning of each month and details about when and where to meet will be confirmed in due course.
The topic this year will be ‘Fossils’, covering the evolution of life, the common fossil types, many of which can be seen in the rocks of the north Northumberland shoreline, and mass extinctions. I hope to see some of you at Membership day in the Town Hall.
