Joining the Benfleet U3A

We are pleased to welcome new members to our U3A. Please browse our range of activities, outings, meetings and events on this site.

About the U3A
U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment e.g. retired, semi-retired, or having completed raising a family.

The National U3A consists of local U3As all over the UK, which are charities in their own right and are run entirely by volunteers. Local U3As are learning cooperatives which draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership. The teachers learn and the learners teach. Between them U3As offer the chance to study over 300 different subjects in such fields as art, languages, music, history, life sciences, philosophy, computing, crafts, photography and walking.

Please view Groups to see our range of group activities within the Benfleet U3A.

FULL membership at £20pa allows access to ALL of the Benfleet U3A activities. We have to limit the Full membership numbers as monthly meeting held at Richmond Hall have a limited safe capacity. However, if full membership places are not available when you apply we do offer....

Special Interest Membership SIM at £16pa allowing involvement in all group activities, outings and any special events. However, attendance at the Monthly Meeting meetings is limited to 2 meetings pa. This ensures that we do not have a waiting list for membership of the Benfleet U3A and everyone has access to the vast majority of the associations activities.

SIMs are able to request moving to full membership and these places will be allocated as and when available.

Please note that membership of the Benfleet U3A does NOT entitle you to attend any other U3A and membership of another U3A does not entitle you to attend the Benfleet U3A.

If you are not sure about joining and want a 'taster' of a group or monthly meeting [excluding outings] then please ask Bob Munson Membership Secretary to make the arrangement and you are welcome to attend the chosen meeting.
