CURRENT STATUS: the group has monthly topics, which are communicated by email.

Hi Everyone

How lovely it is to be out and about again and in sunshine too! However it means that none of us have the time and inclination to sit at the computer so much! Indeed, last months challenge was only completed by one person. (Thank you so much Mavis for your excellent answers)

Having discussed this with some members of the group, I have decided to suspend the on-line quizzes for the Summer. If you are still working your way through the last one please do carry on and finish it, sending it to myself and Ian as normal. I will restart them in the Autumn when poorer weather makes us want to stay indoors.

SO here is your SUMMER 22 challenge. I am not going to arrange a mass group visit as we are too many but I am suggesting a number of different villages for you to visit during the Summer. Join up with other group members or go with friends. Or if you are on your own and want company/or have no transport please call me (01268 421503) and we can visit in one car.

I have given you 6 new places to visit plus a reminder of last year's and a few other suggestions. Please remember to take photos and write up an account of your visit including any recommendations for pubs or cafes that serve a good lunch!

Happy visiting and enjoy the Summer.

This group was established in November 2020. Our primary aim is to research local Benfleet History. We expect to move out into other nearby areas and eventually into Essex.

The Winter months are a prime time for us to use all methods such as word of mouth (family Memories), books, other documents, library, Benfleet Community Archive [view at Benfleet History] or Benfleet Historical Society, etc. to find out about the History of the area in which we live.

In the Spring and Summer, we plan to visit some of the lesser known villages and places of interest in Essex, tying this up with a lunch or tea in a local pub or café. We have not yet decided on a time day or day of the week for this to happen. We will update this information once it is agreed with everyone.
