Benfleet U3A response to the Coronavirus/Covid-19 situation

Although there is an apparent easing of some lock-down restrictions, there is effectively no change to how we can currently run our U3A. Because of the variety of households and numbers involved across our U3A and Specialist Groups, it is not yet possible to meet under the U3A banner. We have been advised that our U3A insurance will not cover any situation that is outside the Government Guidance.

The Member's meetings for July and August are cancelled and we will have keep later meetings under review.

All Outings for 2020 are cancelled except for ABBA 1 October 2020 and Hever Castle 14 December 2020. However, these will also need to be reviewed nearer the dates as guidance changes. A key issue is coaches as it seems likely that safe occupation on each coach is only 50% - so twice as many coaches needed.

Although groups are unable to meet. It may be possible to continue in a different format perhaps using Skype, Whats App, Zoom, etc. Setting individual tasks to be reviewed at a later date, email interchange etc. Be inventive! However please respect your group contacts’ decisions and keep them informed, especially if you are unwell or home isolating. The committee does need to know.

This advice may change in future but we will keep you informed. Meanwhile please try and keep in touch with each other, by phone, email, video, text, over the garden fence or any other way you can think of whilst maintaining physical social distance.

For many this may be the only contact they have. Should any one need help please contact me or any other committee member and we will endeavor to support you however we can.

Please stay safe and well.

Marion and all your committee
