Welcome to the website of Belfast University of the Third Age
If you would you like to try something new or to share your existing skills, we invite you to join us and try one of our 57 interest groups. Not only will you have the chance to share learning experiences in a wide range of topics and activities but you will also have the opportunity to make new friends and have some fun. We are a self-help organisation and also a registered charity with groups which are led by members for members. Our group activities include, but are not confined to - bridge, walking, cycling, languages, reading, creative writing, philosophy, bowling and photography. (See Groups Tab above for a full list of activities).
Belfast u3a, which has over 700 members, is part of a wider University of the Third Age movement throughout the world and is supported in the UK by the Third Age Trust. (For more information, see Our History link on this page)
In normal times, we have a meeting open to all members at the Balmoral Hotel, Dunmurry, on the last Thursday of every month at 11:00 a.m. Each month we invite a different speaker to the meeting and we do our best to ensure that the topics are diverse and interesting. These monthly meetings are now being held on Zoom due to current regulations. We also have a Newsletter, containing information on group activities and monthly meetings, which is sent to all members. (See links to recent issues on this page)
Ivan Little, of the Belfast Telegraph, wrote an article extolling the praises of the U3A movement in Northern Ireland and met some of our Belfast u3a members. (To see his article, please click here)
