Membership of Bedford U3A is open to anyone who is in their 'third age' and not in full-time employment. There is no lower age limit for membership and people who are working part-time may join.
As we come out of lockdown some groups that have been in hibernation are restarting. Other groups are continuing with their activities via Zoom, Facebook and WhatsApp.
The benefits of membership of Bedford U3A include: the opportunity to develop interests and learn in a friendly and relaxed environment with no qualifications required or exams to take, meeting people, making friends and having fun, being able to attend two Open Meetings each month and listen to an interesting talk (see Events page), being able to join interest, recreational and study groups (see Groups page, the opportunity to go on trips, outings and holidays (see Travel Club page), receive the quarterly Bedford U3A Bulletin which has lots of useful information and articles and receive the Third Age Matters and Sources publications from the Third Age Trust.
To join please come along to an Open Meeting where you can meet our Membership Secretary and complete an application form. Annual membership costs £17 and covers the period from 1st October to 30 September. We do not have part year membership periods and charges. When it comes to membership renewal it needs to be paid by 31 October.
There are other costs, as follows:
- Each Open Meeting attended costs £1 (£1.50 from October 2019). There is a complimentary cup of tea or coffee, biscuit and raffle ticket.
- Most Group meetings attended cost £1 or 50p. The £1 charge applies to groups which meet in a hired, paid for room. There are a few where the charge is £1.50; it is mentioned on the web pages for those groups where the charge is £1.50. You must be a Bedford U3A member before you can go along to a Group meeting.
- Any transport and admission costs for a Group activity such as visiting a stately home or a museum will be made clear in advance by the Group Leader. They are not part of the above mentioned annual membership fee or the Open Meeting attendance cost or the Group meeting attendance cost.
- I’m sure it really goes without saying but to avoid any possible doubt the outings, trips and holidays have their own separate costs.
