NOTICES FOR OPEN MEETING AT THE ATH.
Wednesday 3rd July 2019
We were pleased to welcome 1 new member and 1 visitor to our meeting today.
Can I please remind people to wear their name badges to help the people on the door identify you? When its noisy, like today, it can be difficult to hear.
Firstly – A further plea for someone to come forward to take over as Secretary, from October. It should be said that without a Secretary, Bedford U3A ceases to exist. So, if you feel you might be able to take over, please do speak to me about it. At the very least we need someone to nominally own the role even if we need to share some of the jobs within a team – for example if you don’t feel able to stand here and speak in public or you are unsure about insurance needs then we could find someone else to help with that. It would be possible to shadow, and I would be happy to guide and support anyone for the first few months if required.
Secondly - Wendy Read will be standing down from the Committee and the role of Catering and Hospitality. If you think you would be interested in this job, then do speak to Wendy about what is involved and let me know if you are interested - without someone to do this there won’t be refreshments at the Ath.

At the Addison on Tuesday 16th July Tax, Care and Toy Boys. David Pinder of Co-op Estate Planning will talk about protecting your family’s nest egg, inheritance tax and other topics and here at the Ath. on August 7th, Elaine Murphy will talk to us about Midshires Search and Rescue
If anyone is planning to go to the Proms last night in Bedford Park and hasn’t yet booked I have a discount code for Bedford U3A members, see me afterwards.
Several of our members are in the Rock Choir who will be performing at the Stables on Sunday 21st July.
And finally - as always at this time of the year, the Committee has reviewed our financial position. Based on expected increases and to ensure that we break even the annual subscription will be increased from £16 to £17 at renewal this September and the charge made for attendance at open meetings will be increased to £1.50. There is no plan currently to increase group fees.
There are still 3 people who have not collected their refund from the holiday. Please see Janet.
