Notices given at Open Meetings

NOTICES FOR OPEN MEETING AT THE ADDISON.
Tuesday 17th September 2019

(Today we welcome 1 new member and 5 visitors, some hoping to become members after the meeting.)

Notice is hereby given that the Bedford U3A Annual General Meeting will take place on 15th October 2019 here at the Addison Centre commencing at 10am. All documentation is already on its way to members, by email. Those members who do not have email will receive 1 copy per household by mail. If you do not have email and would therefore receive the papers by mail, please see me after the meeting to collect to save on postage. Please note that the date is the 15th and not the 19th as shown in the Bulletin.

Would any groups who wish to display what they have been doing over the last 12 months let Rod Fewings know what tables and space they will need.

A first very polite reminder to renew your membership for 2019/2020. The last date for renewal is 31st October after which time you will no longer receive communications from Bedford U3A, nor will you be able to attend meetings or groups.

A couple of interesting events coming up:
Wednesday 25th September at Woolmer Green 10:15 until 3:30 A Study Day – Our Environment and on Friday 25th October also at Woolmer Green 1pm until 4pm – a network quiz – each U3A can send up to 2 teams of 6 people. if you are interested in taking part and would like to lead a team then come and talk to me

Speakers Coming Soon –
At the Ath. on October 2nd John Huckle will talk about Climate Change and the Bedford Climate Change Forum. Here at the Addison it is of course the AGM and our Speakers Secretary is busy planning for a speaker to follow the AGM.

Christmas Card Design – all members are invited to design the cover of the Bedford U3A Christmas card. Please send original drawings, paintings and photos to me by the end of September. Ideally an electronic copy but paper is OK if you are not able to do that.

The U3A 2020 diary is now available from the Treasurer priced at £3.00. See Lesley afterwards.

Those of you that gave Surnames to Charlie Haylock following his recent talk on Surnames – his findings are now on the web site under events. If you have difficulty finding it then tell me the Surname you are looking for and I’ll give you the information.

I’ve had a message from a doctor in Australia that he is making available to all UK U3A members his e-book Take a Simple Drive to a Healthier Life - free. Details are on the noticeboard if you are interested.

I’ve just received information about an event at Ampthill Great Park this Friday, 20th September. Its an all-day event but I’ve been asked to particularly tell you about the Escape 2VR offering exciting and stimulating experiences taking place from 2pm until 4pm. There’s tea and cake at a £1 an item and background music by one of our members – Geraldine Pearson.

Which brings me to something else needing volunteers. Whilst we hopefully now have someone to take over from Wendy Read we do need more people to help with the refreshments. If you think you can help, please see Wendy today to find out about what is involved or speak to Mark or myself later.
