We are a small group, currently 11 members, who meet once or twice a month to develop our railway modelling skills by trying new techniques and learning from each other. The group also provides a resource for assistance with our own model railway projects.
We usually meet at 2pm on the 4th Monday of each month (the location depends on where the model is located), and occasionally on a weekday evening.
Our aim is to collectively build a small model railway, typically using second hand items from our respective junk boxes, to practice and share our skills and create a finished model. We then aim to exhibit the model at the U3A AGM and later to the general public.
Our previous model (Addision Yard) was built in 2016 and 2017, and exhibited in November 2017 at the Kempston Model Railway Exhibition. See photos.
We started our current model in 2018. It depicts a small West Country fishing village (Middleton).
All of the track, buildings and trains are over 40 years old, donated by a couple of U3A members clearing their attic. The Middleton Wharf photos show the model as shown at the 2018 U3A AGM. As work progresses we will customise the buildings and add extra detailing to turn them into something unique. We are now extending the model to add a section of coastline.
There is still plenty to do, so we welcome new members, no experience necessary.
