The Miniatures Group currently consists of five ladies and one fellah, who spend a couple of hours together once a month in order to construct a project to show at our AGM. We choose a new project every year and attempt to make a one twelfth scale(12” to the foot, this equates to our figures being about five to six inches high) representation of some interesting event or anniversary or fantasy or any other suggestion.
This year 2022-2023 we are having a break from making a diorama. We are making up a kit build house with furniture also being made.
We spend a lot of time researching our chosen subject from books, the internet, museums, photographs, etc.
We never buy anything; the majority is handmade by us from a huge assortment of materials, sometimes more than once. We never throw anything away without first considering whether we could use it as something else in an upcoming scene. We do now have the ability to create our own characters, in the poses we want, to add life to the scene.
The only restriction on what we can make is the limit of our imagination and the more movement and colour we can create the better.
The whole idea is to have fun being creative; we are not professionals and mostly learn as we go along. There are some experienced craft members in our group but we all muck in together and help each other.
Anybody with an interest in what we are doing is welcome to contact us; no special talent is required just enthusiasm and a sense of humour.
