Do you like dancing, but find it is increasingly harder doing what you used to do?
Don’t be tempted to give up dancing until you have given Circle Dancing a try! The Group Leader, David Maxwell, first tried Circle Dancing, when over 60 years old, during a holiday week at the Findhorn Community in Scotland. Circle Dancing has been his favourite type of dance ever since, though he gave it up briefly after a hip replacement.
Now aged 83, David teaches it on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday afternoon of each month at the Bedford Athletic Rugby Club. No partners are required. There are no complicated partner patterns. The U3A members, who are regular attendees, have easily learnt a dozen dances to beautiful folk music recordings.
Sessions start with ‘Specknerin ‘, an English circle dance. The Group are learning ‘ Misirlou’. On the internet Marian Rudel’s group dances it superbly. ‘Mamas kitchen’ is our easiest dance: 4 steps in, 4 steps out, 4 steps sideways to the right & start again!
Hope to see you one of these Wednesdays.
