Stewartby Lake March 2023

16 March 2023

A group of 16 of us enjoyed a meander around Stewartby Lake. The weather was much kinder than forecast and we remained dry and warm. The same could not be said of our footwear as we encountered some wet mud towards the end of our walk although this had been anticipated and we were all appropriately shod.

Along the route we enjoyed views of waterbirds, most of which were quite distant and watched 4 Cormorants (one in breeding plumage) and a pair of Oystercatchers at the Sailing Club. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was something of a treat as was the loud explosion of song from a Cetti’s Warbler. There were catkins and pussy willow to appreciate and the Blackthorn was in flower as were a few of the early flowering plants. As we returned to the car a Red Kite performed a farewell ‘flyover’.

We had a very pleasant morning and enjoyed both the wildlife and the company of the group.
